The Second Half of Life:
A workshop about mid-life meaning led by Rev. Kathy Huff
Thursdays evenings 7:30 – 9:15pm; February 2, 16, March 1, 15, 29, April 19, May 3, and 17, 2012
Are you turning 50? Turning 40? Somewhere in-between? Do you consider yourself at “mid-life”? What are the golden keys to growing into the fullness of life after reaching middle age?
This workshop, especially designed for people of a certain age, draws from Angeles Arrien’s book The Second Half of Life and uses myth, biblical wisdom, various spiritual teachings and rituals to help deepen our most valuable relationships, reclaim dormant creative talents, and shift focus from ambition to meaning. Working with images, poetry, metaphors, and other forms of symbolic language from diverse world cultures, participants will re-imagine and re-discover the meaning of life and learn ways to grow into spiritual maturity that are exciting and purposeful.
Meets for eight Thursdays evenings 7:30 – 9:15; February 2, 16, March 1, 15, 29, April 19, May 3, and 17. We are building community as we go, commitment to attend all or most classes is preferred. Advance registration required for planning purposes. Contact Revkhuff@uuoakland.org or phone 510.893.6129.
Conversations: Our Personal Stories
We are fiercely striving to more authentically grow a widely/wildly welcoming and inclusive religious community. How is this transformation-in-progress working for you? What are you most excited about? Where are your edges? What do you need support with? How can we collectively empower each other? We will co-create a safe space for this challenging conversation in the Crompton Library on the 4th Sunday of January - May, 2012 at 12:45 – 2:00pm.
Group Leader is Bev Smrha. No reservations are needed. If you have a personal story you would particularly like to share with us, or know of a story and person that I should reach out to, please contact me, Bev Smrha, at 510-482-3136 or bevsmrha@gmail.com.
