We communicate with each other through a variety of media. Weekly there are announcements printed in the Sunday Order of Service. In addition, pulpit announcements are made for events of particular interest to our community.
We also have a monthly newsletter which is mailed to members and friends. To take advantage of lower postal rates, the newsletter (called the Sower) is mailed bulk rate. The Sower is always available at the bookstore and/or the membership welcome table on Sundays and it is posted on this web site. Check here for recent issues of the Sower newsletter.

The Chalice Chatter - Our E-Newsletter
The Chalice Chatter is the church's e-newsletter that's published every other week during the church year (September through May) and every three weeks during the summer months. It's a great way to stay informed on the current events here at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland. If we have your email address, we will automatically subscribe you to the Chalice Chatter. If you prefer not to get it, there will be an opt out option at the end of the newsletter. Or feel free to email our church office at office@uuoakland.org to ask to be removed from our mailing list. As noted above, the Chalice Chatter is currently not being produced (because of staff shortages), but it should return come fall.

Submitting Articles for Publication
If you have an article about a church activity that you wish to have published in one or more of our media, please first review our Communications Policy
to be sure you are following our guidelines.
- To publish an article in the Sower Newsletter, please email your text to sower@uuoakland.org. The article is always due by 4:00 pm on the 10th of the month for the forthcoming month's issue (e.g., May 10 is deadline for June Sower).
- To publish a short announcement in the Order of Service, please email oos@uuoakland.org. The text is due by noon on the Wednesday before the Sunday when you want it published.
- To publish a short announcement in the Chalice Chatter, please email enewsltr@uuoakland.org. Deadlines will be posted in each Chalice Chatter for the next one.
