First Unitarian Church of Oakland Bookstore is run and operated by a committee of church members dedicated to filling your bookshelves! You can find us in Wendte Hall from September to May during coffee hour after both services. (Note: With gratitude, we recognize Ron Weisberg and Peggy Azcona, who, for many years, operated the bookstore.)
Our Offerings
We sell used books at a significant discount -- for both children and adults. We also carry new titles on spirituality and diversity. Newcomers might also be interested in our selection of books on Unitarian Universalism, its history, and its principles. This year, we will also begin profiling the many bibliophiles in the church and offering their recommendations in our new books section. Check out our profiles here!
Missed a Service?
Don't worry. You can purchase audio recordings of most services through us each week. We are able to make a copy for you of the last few services on the spot. For previous ones, or if you simply cannot make it to the bookstore, please email Neil Planchon at neil@swansway.com with a description of the service(s) you are seeking. He will track down the service and make a copy, or copies, for you.
All proceeds generated from the bookstore go towards the church's general operating fund.
Volunteers
We are in need of volunteers to assist in staffing the bookstore after each service. If you love books and love meeting new people, please stop by the bookstore and we’ll get you started.
Book Donations
We are happy to accept books in good condition to add to our used book selection. Please use your best judgement and donate books that you believe will be of interest to those in our congregation. We have found that recent well-known titles sell best, so don't wait too long to clean off your shelves. When you finish reading a book, drop it off with one of our staff during regular bookstore hours.
Important Dates
Our bookstore is open most Sundays - September thorugh June.
